A Time To Talk

When a friend calls to me from the road
And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don't stand still and look around
On all the hills I haven't hoed,
And shout from where I am, 'What is it?'
No, not as there is a time talk.
I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,
Blade-end up and five feet tall,
And plod: I go up to the stone wall
For a friendly visit.

Robert Frost

About Robert Frost (1874-1963)

Robert Lee Frost was born in San Francisco. After the death of his father (when he was eleven) the family moved to Massachusetts and spent the next ten years in poverty.

During his high school years, Frost developed his interest in poetry. He later went to Dartmouth College and Harvard. He never completed his studies at both institutions but spent his time wooing his high school sweetheart instead.

When he sold his first poem (My Butterfly) for $15, he asked her to marry him. She only accepted his proposal a year later and they were married for 40 years and had six children. During this time, Frost worked as a chicken farmer and tried to be a school teacher.

Although Frost was consider a famous poet, his life was life was full of suffering. Only one of his six children led a healthy and natural life.

Frost is most probably the most read post in the United States with popularity unrivalled by any American poets of the last century. He had won every single major prize the nation had to offer. His reading at the inauguration of President Kennedy ( Frost was 86 during the time) capped his impressive career that included 4 Pulitzer Prize.

After the death of his wife, Frost were said to be in emotional isolation. Two of his daughter suffered mental breakdown while his son ( also a poet) committed suicide.
