Behind Pinkpoem
I was born in a quiet, poor village. A place where you need to go into the jungle to cut woods to cook your food. After a 3-4 hours of work, I will cycle home with those woods on the back of my bike - and get home using a busy highway. When I was 13, we moved into a squatter, sharing a place to live with rats and cockroaches. I share a small room with my sister and brother. We seldom sleep in the room because it was so cramped. My father decided to drive a taxi while mom wakes up at 3 am every day to cook cookies that she would sell in front of our home. We live in the place my mom called home for 12 years. Luckily, I was away for most of the time. I was away because I believed the best way to change our future is by getting a degree. So I studied hard to get into a prestigious boarding school. During school breaks, I work in the construction yard, hauling rooftops. At 20, after becoming the best student in my college, the government decided to send me overseas. I was to learn Engineering. No one in the squatter believed my parents when they held a thanksgiving party before I went away. For a place littered with stories of drugs and crimes, it was an impossibility. Disaster Struck! Little did I know that life is going to throw a big challenge for me in the first 3 months I was in a foreign country. All my hard work and hope to change the family's fate were shattered in a matter of months. I was contemplating suicide. It started when my own roomate secretly applied a credit card using my name and passport and at the same time forged my signature . Only when he left abruptly did I know that something terrible had happened. During the time, there was $20,000 credit card debt under my name. Coming from a poor family, I had never seen a credit card in my life. So, I decided to ask for help from my country's consulate only to be turned away, because my roommate was a son of an "important person". I deferred my studies to attend court. Emails, letters and calls to my government responsible in my sponsorship was not answered. I was to fight this all alone, with a lawyer I cannot afford The case wasn't settled in a semester, so my studies were directly affected. I was thinking of home.

After 4 years overseas, I am back home with a debt totaling to a quarter of a million for failing to excel. When I came back home, it was in 2000, a time when a lot of foreign investors were pulling out of my country. A lot of factories were closed and a huge numbers of workers were either sacked or retrenched. I was jobless and instead of being a beacon of hope to my family, I was a burden. At 24, I already owed my government an incredibly huge sums of money I never know how to repay. Current Story I am now married to the girl who saved me from the thought of suicide. We lived in a small flat that my parent used to rent when our squatter was demolished. I had created 7 sites that failed and does other odd jobs to earn a living. I had worked as a salesman, bank officer and a manager. I had climbed the corporate ladder and was seen as an emerging star only to be failed by my health. This site is my gate away and a place where others like me can find some inspiration, some hope, some fighting spirit .. I have faith that I would make a comeback one day. The day will come when my aim will be reached. My heart maybe broken but I am still undefeated, for I am still fighting .. I believed everything that happened was for a reason. One day, I will succeed!
That's my story, what about yours? ..
